The Cold Spring Springers advanced to the MSMABA Class A state championship game with a 2-0 win over the LeSueur Legends on Saturday afternoon in Jordan. Neither team mustered much offense as LeSueur outhit Cold Spring 4-3, but Joe Kounkel was dominant on the mound to earn the complete game shutout. He allowed no runs on four hits, no walks, and struck out two in a game that lasted just one hour and seven minutes.
The only scoring in the game came by Cold Spring in the bottom of the third inning when they struck for both of their runs. Derek Falde singled and Greg Terres followed with a home run to left to give the Silvers a 2-0 lead. That score would hold for the remainder of the game thanks to solid pitching and defense, and Cold Spring came away with the victory.
